I took a day off yesterday, and it was a day I wait for all year long—my annual trip to the Trade Fair in Delhi. This visit carries so many childhood memories for me. I still remember the days when each state had a grand pavilion of its own, showcasing their unique culture, food, and crafts. Even now, after so many years, it’s refreshing to be walking those lanes again, soaking in the nostalgia and discovering something new every time.
As soon as I stepped into the fair, I was hit by the energy—a mix of vibrant colors, endless chatter, and an unmistakable spirit of innovation.
One of the first things to catch my eye was the incredible showcase of design and technology. From cutting-edge gadgets to beautifully crafted handmade items, every stall had a story to tell. I couldn’t help but pause at a display where artisans demonstrated the blending of traditional techniques with modern tools. It was a beautiful reminder of how design evolves while staying rooted in its origins.
And then, there was my favorite part of the day—adding new pencils to my collection. For those who know me, my fascination with pencils is more than just a hobby. Each pencil carries its own history, and the ones I picked up yesterday are no exception. One was handcrafted with intricate designs, while another came from an international pavilion, telling a story of its own.
As I moved from one pavilion to another, I couldn’t help but notice the cultural diversity. It felt like traveling across India and the world without ever leaving the fairgrounds. There were stalls celebrating the vibrant colors of Rajasthan, the craftsmanship of the Northeast, and even international booths showcasing traditions I’d never seen before.
It struck me how design and culture are inseparable. Each reflects the other, and together, they create something truly magical.
By the end of the day, I left with a bag full of memories, a few unique pencils, and a head buzzing with inspiration. The Trade Fair wasn’t just an event—it was an experience that reminded me of the incredible creativity and diversity that exists all around us.
Have you ever attended a trade fair that left a lasting impression on you? I’d love to hear your stories.
